Steffen Thirstrup appointed as Affiliate Professor at CORS

New affiliate professor

Steffen Thirstrup has been appointed Affiliate Professor at the Copenhagen Centre of Regulatory Science (CORS) from 1 August 2022.

Steffen Thirstrup

We are delighted to welcome Steffen Thirstrup as an affiliate Professor at CORS. Steffen Thirstrup is a commitment to promoting and supporting teaching and research in Regulatory Science.

Steffen Thirstrup recently took the position of Chief Medical Officer at the European Medicines Agency (EMA). He has substantial experience with the regulatory system, working 8 years as a senior regulatory and strategic consultant for the pharmaceutical industry. Before that, he was the Head of the Licensing Division at the Danish Medicines Agency (DKMA), overseeing scientific advice, Marketing Authorisation Application reviews, and clinical development. He has also been the Danish member of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) and the Committee for Advanced Therapies (CAT) at the EMA.

Steffen has shown outstanding commitment to promoting and supporting teaching and research in Regulatory Science at IF. Before the establishment of CORS, he was involved in the 'Regulatory Interest group'; since CORS was initiated, he has been a member of the CORS scientific advisory board. In addition, he takes part in teaching both at the professional masters MRA and MIND, and in the course on the pharmacy and pharmaceutical science programs, co-supervised master students and PhD students.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Steffen here at CORS, where Steffen will continue to be a significant partner for researchers at IF, i.e., strengthen the publication of results, teaching, thesis supervision, and grant applications. Furthermore, as an Affiliated Professor to CORS, Steffen Thristrup will improve the cross-sectorial setup of CORS through his upcoming position at EMA, which is a key player in the European Regulatory System. Additionally, EMA has a strong role in defining the future regulatory Science needs and providing concrete societal challenges to be addressed by the regulatory system.
